Palmetto Bay Earth Week - 2015

Palmetto Bay is committed to Earth Day in such a big way, we take a full week to celebrate. Each year, Villagers of all ages invited to take part in a wide range of green activities -- all free to the public -- during the week around Earth Day, April 22. April 19: Bird Watching Workshop

”Bird Watching Workshop” was an extremely popular first-time event at Thalatta, for adults and kids alike. Participants learned about birds that inhabit the shoreline of Thalatta Estate and Ludovici Park.


April 20 - 22: Lady Bug Releases

Elected officials joined with students for a first-hand demonstration on how ladybugs serve as nature’s pesticide, by releasing 75,000 of them into local school yards. See photos and a videos.


April 22: Poster Contest

Local 5th graders captured the theme “It's Our Turn to Lead" in our Annual Poster Contest. The 1st place winner's school, Perrone Elementary, shared in an exclusive tree planting ceremony with Mayor Flinn.


April 23: Library Read Along

"Going Green at Your Library,” hosted by the Palmetto Bay Branch Library on April 23, included an earth-friendly story book reading by Village officials, green songs, and fun eco-crafts. See photos.


April 24: You, Me & The Sea

“You, Me & the Sea,” a lecture at Ludovici Park on April 24. Wildlife film maker Richard Kern, provided live narration of his film while exploring the human impact on the Everglades and biodiversity of the Bay.


April 25: Free Tree Give-Away

One of our most popular events was the Tree Give Away at Ludovici Park, April 25. Palmetto Bay citizens were invited to pick up one tree per household (proof of residency required). Master Gardeners from the Cooperative Extension were be on hand. Read more.


April 25: Bike-B-Que

Palmetto Bay/Cutler Bay teamed up for the Bike-B-Que & Rodeo (see flyer), April 25, from Lakes by the Bay, up Old Cutler Bike Trail, to Ludovici Park where a free BBQ was served. See photos.

April 25: Movie Night

After giving a thumbs-up to "Rio 2," in our "Pick the Flick" community survey, the winning movie choice was shown under the stars, April 25, at Coral Reef Park Read more. See archive photos.


Kayak Adventure Program
